A linesman was carried off on a stretcher after collapsing on the field during a top-level football game. The shocking incident occurred during Monday's Turkish Super Lig clash between Istanbul Basaksehir and Pendikspor.
Lightning-Quick Counter-Attack Leaves Linesman Struggling
In the 20th minute of the game, Basaksehir launched a lightning-quick counter-attack, putting pressure on the linesman to keep up with the pace. As the players moved the ball up the pitch, the official, Cemil Tunc, sprinted down the touchline to check for any offsides. However, Tunc pulled up in agony and collapsed on the ground, clutching his leg.
Stretcher Summoned as Medics Carry Linesman Off Field
Players and fellow officials immediately gathered around Tunc as medics were called to the field. The linesman was then carried off on a stretcher to the sound of applause from fans. Reports in Turkey suggest that Tunc suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, a painful injury that can take up to nine months to recover from.
The game ended with Istanbul Basaksehir winning 4-1, moving them one point behind Pendikspor in the league standings.
