Lennie Lawrence appointed caretaker manager of Hartlepool
Lennie Lawrence, the last remaining manager from the original Premier League season, has been appointed as caretaker manager of Hartlepool. The 76-year-old will be back in the dugout for their home clash with Oxford City on Saturday.
Continuing search for a new permanent boss
Hartlepool have also confirmed that they are continuing their search for a new permanent boss after parting ways with John Askey. The club is currently 19th in the National League and just four points above the relegation zone.
Experience and fan-favorite connections
Lawrence, who has been a director at Victoria Park since 2022, previously managed fan-favorite Chris Kamara at Bradford and Middlesbrough. Kamara took to X (formerly Twitter) to wish him luck and express his surprise at the news.
A seasoned manager with over 1,000 games
Lawrence has had an extensive coaching career, managing teams such as Bradford, Luton, Grimsby, and Cardiff. He is also one of a select few to have managed over 1,000 games. After a decade away from management, he briefly served as Crystal Palace caretaker boss in 2012.
