Boxing Runs in the Blood
Boxing has long been a part of the Calzaghe family's history. The late Enzo Calzaghe, patriarch of the family, introduced his son Joe to the sport, which would eventually make him one of the greatest boxers in British history.
Joe Jr. Follows in His Grandfather's Footsteps
Joe Calzaghe Jr., son of the legendary boxer, is now making his own mark in the boxing world as a trainer. As one of the head coaches at the Joe Calzaghe Academy in Newbridge, Wales, Joe Jr. is passing down the knowledge and skills he learned from his father and late grandfather to the next generation of boxers.
Keeping the Legacy Alive
Joe Jr. takes pride in his role as a trainer, continuing the family's passion for the sport. Earlier this year, he coached several aspiring boxers in a tournament held at the academy, sharing his love for boxing on his Instagram page. The event was just the beginning, as Joe Jr. plans to train many more amateurs in the future.
A Surprising Impact
Joe Sr.'s sons, Joe Jr. and Connor, inadvertently played a role in their father's decision to retire from boxing. After witnessing their father's fight against Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas, where he was knocked down, the boys were traumatized. They stumbled upon YouTube compilations of Roy Jones knockouts, which further shocked them. Concerned for their well-being, Joe Sr. made the decision to prioritize his sons' happiness over his fighting career.
