Jamie Carragher predicts Man Citys downfall to non-league after Premier League demands points deduction for Everton

Premier League calls for Everton points deduction

Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool legend, believes that Manchester City will eventually end up in non-league football as the Premier League demands a points deduction for Everton. The Toffees are facing the possibility of being docked 12 points if found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play rules. This comes as the Merseyside club has recorded heavy losses amounting to £371.8 million over the past three years, which is more than triple the permitted amount.

Premier League pushing for maximum punishment

The Premier League is reportedly pushing for a maximum 12-point deduction for Everton if the independent commission rules against the club. This potential blow could greatly affect Everton's fight to stay in the Premier League during the 2023-24 season. Currently, Everton is 16th in the table with seven points from nine matches.

Carragher redirects focus to Manchester City

Carragher, who is a boyhood Everton fan, took to Twitter to shift the attention to Manchester City amidst their ongoing battle with Financial Fair Play. He expressed his disbelief at the number of stories surrounding Everton's situation compared to the relative silence surrounding City's situation, which involves 114 more charges and has been going on for a longer period of time.

Manchester City's FFP battle

Manchester City has been accused of 115 alleged charges of breaching Financial Fair Play rules, including hiding the true source of the club's funding and obstructing the Premier League investigation. Possible punishments for City include point deductions, transfer bans, and even expulsion from the division. The club denies the charges and is launching a legal challenge with the help of Lord Pannick KC, who is being paid £5,000 per hour for his services.
