An ITV legend who has made a name for himself in film, TV, and even pantomime once had a promising career as a professional footballer at Brentford. This Watford-born entertainer has had an illustrious career and continues to be at the top of his game.

A Quiz Show Host and More

While he's made appearances on popular shows like Coronation Street and Doctor Who, this star's biggest legacy is his work as a quiz show host. In addition, his debut album in 2016 reached the top ten charts, with a follow-up record not far behind at 11th place a year later. With accolades like winning the British Soap Awards and starring in pantomimes, it's clear that this showbiz legend has done it all.

But before he became a household name, this TV personality pursued a different passion - football. After leaving school, he joined Brentford as a teenager, playing in the Hertfordshire County League. Although he never made a first-team appearance, he did enjoy a loan spell at Barnet, playing four times during the 1979/80 season.

From the Pitch to Soccer Aid

Injuries ultimately cut short his football career at the young age of 21, following an ankle fracture. However, he made a return to the pitch for Soccer Aid in 2006 and 2010, representing England. Not only did he help the Three Lions win the charity match in 2006, but he also served as a coach for the team in 2012 and 2016.
