I’m a darts star who’s been BANNED from using my rude nickname at the PDC World Championships

Ahead of his debut at the World Championships, darts star Owen Bates has been banned from using his nickname. The 20-year-old is set to appear at Ally Pally this December, however, he’ll have to find a new nickname before he steps up to the oche.

Banned by the PDC

Owen Bates, who is set to make his World Championships debut in December, has had his nickname 'The Master' banned by the PDC. Currently, the back of his shirt includes his nickname 'The Master.' As such, his name hilariously reads Owen 'Master' Bates. Unfortunately, the PDC has reportedly informed the youngster he'll have to come up with an alternative come the World Championships.

Calling for suggestions

Owen has since taken the opportunity to reach out to fans for their recommendations. Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, he asked: "Any suggestions on a new nickname?!" Fans have been quick to respond with various suggestions.

The contenders

One suggested "Norman" in reference to the Psycho character, Norman Bates. A second said: "Owen Bates initials: OB. Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi. Star Wars + Owen Bates = OB Wan 80." Another proposed: "Just go as similar as possible Owen, 'The Maestro' Bates has a certain ring to it." While a fourth put forward "Repro," meaning his name would read Owen "Repro" Bates.

Rising star

Ranked 125th in the PDC Order of Merit, Bates secured his tour card in October after finishing as the runner-up at the PDC Winmau Challenger Tour. This was the latest step forward for the youngster who beat the Netherlands' Wesley Plaisier 5-4 to win the PDC Challenge Tour in Milton Keynes back in August.

Bates will be hoping to upset some big names at Ally Pally this December.
