Harry Redknapp Joins Forces with DWP to Help Pensioners Secure Cash Boost

Football Legend Urges Seniors to Apply for Pension Credit Before December 10 Deadline

Legendary football manager Harry Redknapp has partnered with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in a major initiative to assist pensioners in obtaining a financial boost. The goal is to encourage low-income seniors to apply for Pension Credit before the December 10 deadline, giving them a chance to receive an additional £300 on top of the average yearly support of £3,900.

Redknapp's Car Window Plea

Speaking from his car window, Redknapp described Pension Credit as a "brilliant signing" and called on pensioners and their loved ones to use the online calculator to see how much they could receive. The former Tottenham and West Ham boss became famous for giving interviews from his car window during his managerial career, particularly on transfer deadline day.

Pensions Minister Emphasizes the Importance of Checking Eligibility

Pensions Minister Paul Maynard stated, "We want every pensioner to receive all the help they can, and with time running out and the deadline day approaching, now is the perfect time to use our Pension Credit calculator and ensure that you or your loved ones do not miss out on this vital support. In many cases, it's an opportunity to put more money in your pocket."

Thousands of Pensioners Missing Out

Despite 1.4 million pensioners currently benefiting from Pension Credit, there are still significant numbers who are unaware of the support they could be receiving. The DWP estimates that there are 850,000 eligible pensioners who are not claiming the benefit.

Eligibility and Benefits

Pension Credit is available to anyone over the state pension age living in England, Scotland, or Wales. To qualify, individuals must have a weekly income of less than £201.05 for single people or £306.85 for couples. Pensioners may be eligible for one or both parts of the pension credit: Guarantee Credit, which tops up weekly income to a minimum level, and Savings Credit, which provides extra money for those who have saved towards retirement.

Applying and Payment

Applications for Pension Credit can be made on the government website or by calling the pension credit claim line. Individuals will need their National Insurance number and information about their income, savings, and investments. Benefits are usually paid into a bank account every four weeks, with concessions available for those without access to a bank account.

Make sure to apply by December 10, 2023, to secure the extra cost-of-living payment and the possibility of backdating for up to three months.
