Irish jockey suffers injury while riding Clovis Boy at Scottish track
Grand National hero Derek Fox, who famously won the race last year on Corach Rambler, was rushed to the hospital after a terrifying fall at Ayr. Fox was seen hobbling and holding his right arm as he made his way to the ambulance. The extent of his injuries is still unknown, but it is hoped that they are not serious enough to affect his upcoming Grand National defense.
Disaster strikes as Clovis Boy stumbles and sends Fox flying
Fox, 31, was riding Clovis Boy, a 100-30 shot, in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at the Scottish track when the accident happened. The five-year-old horse, trained by Lucinda Russell, slipped and stumbled approaching the second hurdle from home, causing it to lunge forward and somersault. This sent Fox flying and left him in visible pain as he made his way to the ambulance. The horse, however, appeared to be unhurt.
Delays and waterlogged ground at Fakenham
The incident caused a delay in the racing schedule as officials waited for the ambulance to return. Meanwhile, at Fakenham, today's racing was abandoned just moments before the first race due to waterlogged ground, preventing the vehicles from reaching injured jockeys. The safety of the riders and horses is always a top priority in the sport.
Recovery and future plans
It is hoped that Fox will make a quick recovery and be back in the saddle soon. With just ten weeks until the Cheltenham Festival, Fox's partner Peter Scudamore revealed that Corach Rambler is likely to make an appearance at the prestigious jumps event. A run in the Gold Cup is expected before the horse attempts to defend its Grand National title. This is not the first time Fox has faced injury before the National, but he managed to recover in time for the race last year.
