Gary Neville hints at Erik ten Hags future at Manchester United following defeat to Newcastle

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville took to Twitter on Thursday morning to share his thoughts on the club's recent poor performances. Neville's cryptic tweet seemed to suggest that manager Erik ten Hag could be facing the sack. The Red Devils suffered a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, following a similar defeat to Manchester City just three days prior. This loss marks United's eighth defeat in 15 games this season, their worst start since the 1962/63 campaign.

Neville highlights the absence of a sporting director at Manchester United

In his tweet, Neville drew attention to the lack of a sporting director at Manchester United, using Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth as an example of what the club is missing. He praised Ashworth's competence and qualifications, as well as his ability to work coherently with the coach, recruitment team, and other departments. Neville stated that both Newcastle and Manchester City have successfully implemented proper football departments to support their teams on and off the pitch, while United has not.

A bleak picture at Old Trafford

Neville's tweet painted a bleak picture of the current state of affairs at Manchester United. He compared the lackluster atmosphere at Old Trafford during the Newcastle match to the energy and enthusiasm that had been drained from Newcastle fans under previous owner Mike Ashley. Neville expressed his concern for United's supporters and criticized the woeful performances of the players and the struggling manager. He concluded by stating that he has seen this pattern before and that enough is enough.

Manchester United currently sits eighth in the Premier League table, eight points behind the top four. In the Champions League, they are in third place in their group after two defeats in three matches. Their next match is against Fulham on Saturday.
