Residents in Samlesbury, Lancashire are up in arms over plans submitted by Freddie Flintoff's building firm, Logik Developments. The proposed development, known as the 'Cuerdale Employment Sites', has sparked outrage among locals, with 487 objections lodged against the plans. The project includes industrial units, a hotel, and retail outlets, all of which will be built on grassland fields. However, residents are concerned that the development will turn their village into a "monstrosity" and have a negative impact on property values.
"Like an Amazon Warehouse": Concerns Over the Design
Many residents have expressed their dissatisfaction with the proposed design of the development. Some believe that the buildings will resemble an "Amazon distribution warehouse center," while others feel that the structures will dominate the entire countryside. Nigel Dixon, a resident who has lived in Samlesbury for 20 years, has particularly strong objections as part of the development will back onto his 1850 farmhouse. He claims that the plans have already caused him to lose out on the sale of his home.
Unsellable Properties and Devastating Effects
According to Nigel Dixon, the proposed development has made properties in the area "unsellable." He explains that when potential buyers were made aware of the planning application, they pulled out of the deals. As a result, Dixon had to reduce the price of his house by £150,000, significantly below its original value. He questions whether Freddie Flintoff would want such a development built in his own backyard.
Controversy Surrounding Logik Developments and Freddie Flintoff
Logik Developments, the company behind the project, lists Freddie Flintoff as one of its directors. The former cricketer and television personality has not yet commented on the controversy surrounding the development. This is not the first time Flintoff has made headlines recently, as he was injured while filming for Top Gear in December 2021. Despite the incident, he has continued to be involved with the England men's cricket team in a flexible role.

Local Opposition and Future Plans
Local residents have formed an action group on Facebook called Stop Cuerdale Garden Village Action Group to oppose developments like the Cuerdale Employment Sites. This group was established following a separate proposal by Story Homes for the 'Cuerdale Garden Village', which aims to build 1,300 homes in the area. If the planning application for the Cuerdale Employment Sites is approved, Logik Developments hopes to begin construction in Autumn 2025.
Representatives for Freddie Flintoff and Logik Developments have been contacted for comment.
