Frank Lampard Misses Out on Managerial Job as Ex-Premier League Boss Takes the Lead

Former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has emerged victorious in the race for the managerial position at MLS side Charlotte FC, beating out competition from Frank Lampard.

Dean Smith Set to Take Charge

After failing to keep Leicester City in the Premier League last season, 52-year-old Dean Smith has been out of work. However, it seems he is on the verge of securing a new role as the manager of MLS outfit Charlotte FC.

Frank Lampard Left Disappointed

The news of Smith's appointment will come as a blow to former England midfielder Frank Lampard. The Chelsea legend, who previously played for New York City FC, was reportedly in talks with Charlotte FC's owner, billionaire David Tepper.

Smith Impresses in the Interview Process

During the interview process, Smith impressed the MLS outfit with his credentials and vision for the team. This ultimately led to Lampard missing out on the opportunity to revive his career in the United States.

A Look at Dean Smith's Career

Smith took over Leicester City in April after Brendan Rodgers' departure but was unable to save the team from relegation. Prior to that, he had a successful spell at Aston Villa, guiding them to promotion back to the Premier League in 2019.

Charlotte FC's Ambitions

Charlotte FC, based in North Carolina, are preparing for their third season in the MLS. Last season, they finished ninth in the Eastern Conference and secured a playoff spot with a 1-0 victory over Lionel Messi's Inter Miami on the final day of the regular season.
