Former Tottenham Target Gelson Martins Frozen Out of Monaco Squad

Former Tottenham Target Gelson Martins Frozen Out of Monaco Squad

Gelson Martins, who was once a transfer target for Tottenham, has reportedly been frozen out of the Monaco squad. Manager Adi Hutter has insisted that Martins must leave the club as soon as possible, leading to his exclusion from the team.

Manager's Decision

Adi Hutter, the manager of Monaco, stated that signing Martins was never his decision. The club, along with CEO Thiago Scuro, agreed that Martins should be sold to trim the squad. Hutter mentioned that he likes the player, but the decision to part ways with him has been made.

No Appearances or Training

Martins has not made a single appearance for Monaco this season. He is no longer training with the first team and was not included in the official club photo. This decision was reached mutually between the winger's agent and the club, following Hutter's statement.

Possible Move in January

According to Foot Mercato, Martins is likely to make a move to the Saudi Pro League or return to Portugal in January. This would provide him with an opportunity to continue his career elsewhere.

Martins' Career

Martins started his career at Sporting Lisbon, where he made his first team debut in 2015. He then joined Atletico Madrid on a free transfer after three successful years at Sporting Lisbon. However, he struggled to secure a regular place in Diego Simeone's squad, leading to his move to Monaco in 2019.

At Monaco, Martins became a key player until he received a six-month ban for pushing a referee. This incident, along with the arrival of Adi Hutter as manager, has resulted in Martins' decline in the pecking order at the club.

Tottenham's Interest

Tottenham considered signing Martins on transfer deadline day last summer, but the talks fell through. The club was looking to bring in another winger after missing out on Dan James.

With his current situation at Monaco, it seems unlikely that Martins will have a future at the club. A move in January could provide him with a fresh start and a chance to revive his career.
