Retirement Plan: From Football to Hotels

Former Premier League star Hermann Hreidarsson, known for his time at Portsmouth and his 2006 FA Cup win, has transitioned from football to the hotel industry. After opening a hostel in Reykjavik in 2011, he launched the four-star Stracta Hotel in 2014, offering guests a retreat to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.

The Stracta Hotel, located 60 miles outside of Reykjavik, has become a popular destination for those hoping to witness the Northern Lights. With stunning views and a rating of four out of five on TripAdvisor, the hotel offers a range of accommodations, including standard and superior rooms, studio rooms with kitchenettes, two-bedroom apartments with cooking facilities and private hot tubs, and deluxe suites with private jacuzzis.

More Hotels to Come

In addition to the Stracta Hotel, Hreidarsson plans to build more hotels in Iceland's scenic regions, allowing guests to explore the country's natural wonders. His sense of adventure and love for the great outdoors, stemming from his upbringing on the remote Vestmannaey Islands, drives his desire to create unique experiences for visitors.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Stracta Hotel boasts 148 rooms, with prices starting at around £127-per-night. The hotel offers various dining options, including a bistro restaurant, a bar, and the Gardur restaurant, where guests can enjoy three-course meals. Spa facilities, saunas, communal hot tubs, and a gym are also available to help guests unwind and relax.

Activities and Adventures

Located in close proximity to natural wonders, the Stracta Hotel provides plenty of opportunities for adventure. Guests can visit the man-made Caves of Hella, explore glaciers and ice caves, take buggy/ATV trips across black sand beaches, and go kayaking. The hotel's location also allows for prime views of Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano famous for its eruption in 2010.

From the Pitch to the Sidelines

After retiring from professional football, Hreidarsson turned his attention to coaching. He served as an assistant coach for the Indian Premier League side Kerala Blasters in 2018 and later joined Sol Campbell at Southend. Since 2021, he has been the head coach of top-tier side IBV Vestmannaeyjar.
