Former Premier League Star Makes Big Bucks After Shock Departure from Chelsea

Surprise Move to Chinese Super League

A former Premier League winner has been raking in the big bucks since his unexpected decision to leave Chelsea in 2016. Football fans will remember the shock when Oscar left the Blues in order to join the Chinese Super League seven years ago.

Impressive Career at Stamford Bridge

Oscar, a Brazilian midfielder, was highly regarded during his time at Stamford Bridge. He won the Premier League twice and one Europa League during his five-year spell in England. However, he fell down the pecking order following the outstanding performances of stars like Cesc Fabregas, N'Golo Kante, and Nemanja Matic.

Lucrative Contract in China

Oscar, now 32, decided to leave European football altogether and joined CSL outfit Shanghai SIPG. He reportedly signed a lucrative contract worth up to £400,000-per-week. This move was part of the Chinese league's strategy to challenge the marketability of top European leagues like the Premier League and LaLiga.

Impressive Earnings in China

In his seven years in China, Oscar has earned an astonishing £146m from his wages alone. He has scored 61 goals for Shanghai in 207 appearances. Oscar was not the only player tempted to move to China, as the likes of Carlos Tevez, Ramires, Alexandre Pato, and Marouane Fellaini also made similar moves.

Future Plans

Oscar's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he will have to decide whether to move or accept a lower wage in order to stay. Despite the challenges, Oscar has insisted that he has no regrets about his move and feels fulfilled in his career.

"I have no regrets. I had a beautiful trajectory there, and in my career, I managed to fulfill everything I dreamed of," Oscar said. "As I left Europe at the age of 25, I always had an offer to return, but nothing that got too close or that I really put my foot down to go back to. As I played for Chelsea for five years, I fulfilled my dream of playing for a big club in Europe."
