Former F1 Rival Reveals Being Banned from Visiting Michael Schumacher After Skiing Accident

Former Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello recently opened up about the time he was denied a visit to his ex-teammate Michael Schumacher after the F1 legend's skiing accident. Barrichello shared his experience during an interview with Flow Podcast in Brazil.

Denied a Visit

Barrichello, who raced alongside Schumacher at Ferrari from 2000 to 2005, revealed that he tried to visit Schumacher after his accident but was declined after receiving a call from Schuey's team. The team told him that his visit wouldn't be helpful and that he might feel sad. Barrichello respected their decision and expressed his love for Schumacher's family.

Complex Rivalry

Barrichello and Schumacher had a complex relationship during their time at Ferrari. Schumacher was the team's leading driver, while Barrichello played a supporting role. Their rivalry was marked by team orders favoring Schumacher and controversial moments in Formula One where Barrichello had to cede positions to his teammate.

A Tearful Memory

Barrichello became emotional when recalling a moment with his son. During a New Year's celebration in California, Barrichello suggested leading a prayer for Schumacher. However, his son questioned the gesture, leading Barrichello to explain that much of what he had heard about their rivalry was just toxic gossip.

Schumacher's Private World

Since his tragic skiing accident, Schumacher's family has kept his health a secret and his inner circle small. His wife Corinna has created a private world around him, allowing only a select group of people to see him. She has prioritized their family's privacy and reportedly slimmed down Schumacher's business empire. Their home has even been partially converted into a hospital where he receives round-the-clock care.

Hope and Prayers

Despite their rivalry, Barrichello and Schumacher had a friendly relationship off the racetrack. Barrichello shared that he is constantly praying for Schumacher's full recovery and hopes to see him back at a Formula 1 race track someday.
