Missed Opportunity
A former England international has revealed that he missed out on the chance to work with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. The player, who had been coaching the club's reserve side after retiring in 2022, had already left the club by the time Messi joined this summer.
A Forgotten England Star
The player in question is Stoke legend Ryan Shawcross, who earned one cap for the England national team in a friendly match against Sweden in 2012. Despite not returning to international duty, Shawcross went on to make over 300 Premier League appearances for Stoke before retiring at the age of 34.
Coaching Career
After retiring, Shawcross moved to Florida and began his coaching career with Inter Miami. He spent 11 months with the club's reserve side before returning to England at the end of last year. He is currently serving as the assistant manager for Stoke's under-18 side.
Stoke City Legacy
During his time with Stoke, Shawcross made 453 appearances and served as the club's captain for 11 years. He also played a key role in the team's promotion to the Premier League and their Europa League campaign in the 2011/12 season.
