Former England Captain Sol Campbell Sued for £800,000 Over Failed Flat Purchase

Former England Captain Sol Campbell Sued for £800,000 Over Failed Flat Purchase

Background

Former England captain Sol Campbell is facing a lawsuit for more than £800,000 after backing out of a £3.85 million flat purchase in London's prestigious Cadogan Square. The flat's owner, Lady Jadranka Beresford-Peirse, has filed a claim at the High Court alleging that Campbell and his wife, Fiona, signed a contract to buy the property but failed to pay the remaining balance.

The Allegations

Lady Jadranka is seeking approximately £810,000 in total, which includes alleged losses and new sale costs. She accuses Sol and Fiona Campbell of breach of contract and has threatened to sue them for specific performance if they do not proceed with the deal. Lady Jadranka is seeking a court order that would compel the Campbells to purchase the flat and compensate her.

Sol Campbell's Career

Sol Campbell, known for his time playing for Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, represented England in 73 matches as a defender. After retiring from professional football, Campbell went on to manage Macclesfield Town and Southend United. In 2010, he married Fiona Barratt, an interior designer and the granddaughter of Sir Lawrie Barratt, the founder of Barratt Homes.

Financial Impact

Lady Jadranka claims that she suffered a loss of £260,000 as a result of being unable to proceed with her own purchase of a smaller flat. The total amount she is seeking from the Campbells includes compensation for this loss.
