Forgotten Tottenham flop Steven Bergwijn could make Premier League comeback with West Ham

Talks underway for potential transfer return

West Ham is considering a move for Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn as they look to bolster their attack this month. With injuries to Lucas Paqueta and Mohamed Kudus away on international duty, the Hammers are in need of reinforcements. Bergwijn, who previously played for Tottenham, is eager to return to the Premier League and preliminary talks have taken place between West Ham and the player's representatives. However, a January transfer is dependent on raising funds through outgoings. Ajax is unlikely to sanction a loan deal with an obligation to buy as Bergwijn is the club captain.

Background and current situation

Steven Bergwijn, 26, spent two-and-a-half years at Tottenham before returning to Holland. During his time at Spurs, he made 83 appearances and scored eight goals. West Ham has already loaned out Thilo Kehrer to Monaco and has players away on international duty, including Nayef Aguerd. The African Cup of Nations, where Kudus and Aguerd are participating, will take place from January 13 to February 11 in the Ivory Coast.
