Football Manager Superfan Travels 4,000 Miles to Watch Beloved Team, But Game Gets Abandoned

Obsession with Wakefield AFC

Avid football fan Ian Webb fell in love with Wakefield AFC after playing as them on Football Manager. The semi-professional team, located just south of Leeds in West Yorkshire, caught his attention and he became "obsessed" with them.

4,000-Mile Trip to England

Webb's dedication to his favorite team led him to plan a trip to England to watch them play. Living in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he traveled 4,000 miles to see Wakefield in action. The trip, which cost him £4,500, took 18 months to save up for.

Game Postponed and Abandoned

Unfortunately, Webb's plans were disrupted when the game he was supposed to attend at the Be Well Support Stadium was postponed due to scheduling issues. Three days later, the backup game was abandoned due to torrential rain. Webb expressed his disappointment and described the feeling as being "crushed."

Stadium Tour and Future Plans

Despite not being able to watch a game, Webb and his wife Megan were able to enjoy a stadium tour of Wakefield. Webb remains determined and has declared that he will return in a couple of years to try again and experience the "authentic" non-league football atmosphere. He dreams of witnessing Wakefield play in a pivotal game while they are challenging for promotion.

In conclusion, Ian Webb's passion for Wakefield AFC led him on a 4,000-mile journey to watch his favorite team in action. Although the games were postponed and abandoned, Webb remains committed to his love for non-league football and plans to return for another chance to see Wakefield play.
