England wonderkid Ronnie Edwards set to seal dream January transfer with Premier League teams chasing £4.5million star

Young talent Ronnie Edwards, who plays for Peterborough United, is on the verge of securing a highly anticipated move in the upcoming January transfer window. The 20-year-old England Under-21 international has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, with offers reaching £4.5 million.

West Ham and Swansea among the interested parties

West Ham made two unsuccessful bids for Edwards in the summer, while Swansea's four attempts also fell short. Both clubs are expected to renew their interest in the promising defender next month.

Everton has been closely monitoring Edwards' progress and may also join the race for his signature. Peterborough, who currently sit second in League One, are demanding a minimum fee of £4.5 million for their prized asset. However, they are also seeking additional payments through add-ons, potentially doubling the overall cost of the transfer.

Foreign interest and previous links to Rangers

Edwards has attracted attention from clubs outside of England as well. One German club and one Belgian club have expressed interest in securing the services of the talented centre-back. In addition, Scottish giants Rangers were linked with Edwards in the summer, with the club sending scouts to watch his performances.

Edwards, who began his career at Barnet, has made 113 appearances for Peterborough and is under contract until 2025. The youngster has been a key figure in Darren Ferguson's side, who are currently enjoying an unbeaten run of five games. However, they trail League One leaders Portsmouth by seven points.

Potential moves for West Ham

West Ham, in particular, are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window. Manager David Moyes is keen to address the weaknesses in his squad, especially with Michail Antonio sidelined due to injury. The Hammers are in desperate need of additional firepower up front, with reports suggesting their interest in Montpellier striker Akor Adams.

Furthermore, West Ham may also pursue a move for Stuttgart defender Dan-Axel Zagadou, although this transfer could be dependent on the sale of Nayef Aguerd. In their quest to strengthen their defense, the Hammers are also considering the addition of Chelsea outcast Ian Maatsen, who impressed on loan at Burnley last season.
