England Faces Group of Death at Euro 2024: Best and Worst Case Scenarios

England Faces Group of Death at Euro 2024: Best and Worst Case Scenarios

Best Possible Draw

England has not been eliminated in the Euros group stage since 2000 and could secure a favorable draw in Pot 2 with 59th ranked Albania, Pot 3 with 54th ranked Slovenia, and Pot 4 with World No98 Kazakhstan.

Worst Possible Draw

Despite being seeded, England could face a tough draw with potential match-ups against former winners Denmark in Pot 2, Netherlands in Pot 3, and Italy in Pot 4.

England secured a spot in Pot 1 for Euro 2024 after a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia. The draw, set to take place on December 2, will determine the group stage opponents for each team. While England is one of the favorites to win the tournament, the quality of their group could significantly impact their chances.

In the best-case scenario, England could be drawn with Albania, Slovenia, and Kazakhstan. Albania, ranked 59th, has only qualified for the Euros once and is considered a weaker team. Slovenia, ranked 54th, has also only qualified once and has never won a match at the Euros. Kazakhstan, ranked 98th, would be the lowest-ranked team in Pot 4 if they secure qualification through the playoffs.

Worst Possible Draw

Despite being top seeds, England could face a nightmare draw. Denmark, who England beat in the semi-finals of Euro 2020, could be their Pot 2 opponent. The Danish team, led by stars like Christian Eriksen and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, topped their qualification group with seven wins. Netherlands, in Pot 3, also poses a challenge with talented players like Virgil van Dijk and Denzel Dumfries. The most extraordinary draw would be Italy in Pot 4, the reigning European champions who defeated England in the final at Wembley two years ago.

Ultimately, the draw will determine the fate of England's Euro 2024 campaign. Fans will eagerly await the announcement on December 2 to see which teams they will face in the group stage. Will it be a dream draw or the dreaded group of death for Gareth Southgate's men?
