Struggles at Old Trafford
Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will be allowed to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window, according to his former manager Erik ten Hag. Van de Beek, who joined the Red Devils from Ajax in August 2020 for £35million, has found it difficult to make an impact during his time at Old Trafford. Despite scoring on his debut, the Dutchman has only started 15 Premier League games in the past two seasons and has played just two minutes in the league this year.
Unfulfilled Potential
Ten Hag, who coached Van de Beek at Ajax, acknowledged the player's need for game time and career development. The 26-year-old midfielder's lack of opportunities, combined with injury troubles, has led to a disappointing stint with Manchester United. Van de Beek missed a large portion of last season due to ligament damage in his knee and was on the verge of a move to Real Sociedad in the summer, which ultimately fell through.
Looking for a Fresh Start
Despite his financial security at Manchester United, Van de Beek has expressed his desire to play regularly and explore new opportunities. He stated, "If it's not possible at United , then I will go to another club. I think this is a healthy ambition. Money has never been my motivation." With the January transfer window approaching, a move away from Old Trafford seems likely for the Dutch midfielder.
Injury Woes Continue
In other news, Manchester United has suffered another injury setback as left-back Tyrell Malacia requires a second knee operation. However, Malacia hopes to make a return to the pitch in the New Year.
