I can't believe what I'm seeing right now. The Rocket is in serious trouble.
Zhao Xintong has just ripped through THREE straight frames against Ronnie O'Sullivan in their World Championship semi, and the atmosphere at the Crucible is electric. We started the day with them locked at 4-4, but Zhao's now opened up a commanding 7-4 lead that nobody saw coming. Not even the bookies (and trust me, I checked their odds this morning over my lukewarm coffee).
God. Remember when everyone thought Ronnie would cruise to another final?
Meanwhile, Judd Trump's heading to bed tonight with a smile on his face and a two-frame cushion against Mark Williams. Poor Williams. That missed black will haunt his dreams tonight - you could literally see the pain on his face as it rattled in the jaws. My buddy Dave texted me during that frame: "Williams looks like someone just ran over his cat." Harsh but accurate.
The weird thing is... Trump hasn't even played particularly well! Nowhere near the standard he's shown getting to this stage. If Williams had capitalized on some of those openings, we'd be looking at a completely different scoreline.
What the hell happened to The Rocket?
I've been watching Ronnie since 1997, and something seems off today. His body language tells the whole story - shoulders slumped, that thousand-yard stare between shots. Back in 2020 when he won it during the pandemic, he had this aura of inevitability. Today? He looks... mortal.
Zhao deserves massive credit though. The 27-year-old is playing with the freedom of someone with nothing to lose, and it's beautiful to watch when he gets in full flow. His long potting has been particularly impressive.
Sleep Tight, Mark
If I were Mark Williams right now, I'd be reaching for teh sleeping pills. How do you process being outplayed by a version of Judd Trump that's performing at maybe 60% of his capability?
Williams has to regroup overnight. His experience might be the key factor here - at 49, he's seen it all before.
I spent $200 on tickets for tomorrow's session, and I'm praying Williams brings his A-game. Nothing worse than a one-sided semi when you've fought through the Sheffield traffic and paid Crucible prices for a pint. (£6.50! Highway robbery.)
Where to catch the action if you're not lucky enough to be there
Coverage starts at 10am across BBC platforms - they're showing it on BBC One, Two and Four at various points throughout the day. You can also stream every moment on BBC iPlayer.
If you're a TNT Sports subscriber, they've got alternative coverage, and Discovery+ is streaming everything too.
I'll be glued to my screen all day. My boss thinks I'm working from home, but between us... there's a reason I scheduled no meetings for tomorrow afternoon.
The gambling elephant in the room
Listen. We all know snooker and betting go together like beer and crisps. There are plenty of online casinos promoting themselves alongside this tournament.
Just remember to keep it fun and know when to walk away. I learned that lesson the hard way during the 2018 championship... but that's a story for another day.
I'll be back tomorrow with more updates as the drama unfolds. This tournament never disappoints!
