Holy hell, what a rollercoaster we're witnessing at the Crucible! I've been glued to my screen since Friday, surviving on nothing but coffee and those stale biscuits my wife bought last week (sorry, Sarah). Mark Williams is absolutely BOSSING Judd Trump right now in what's turning into one of the most nerve-shredding semi-finals I've seen in years.
The Welsh Dragon Breathes Fire
So here's where we stand. Williams and Trump were deadlocked at 8-8 after Friday's session, which honestly gave me heart palpitations. Williams somehow pulled off this incredible comeback, winning 5 of the last 6 frames when he looked dead and buried. Classic Williams - the man's 49 and still fighting like he's in his prime!
This morning? Different story entirely.
Williams absolutely dominated, taking the session 5-3 to establish a 13-11 lead. I was meant to be fixing my daughter's bike this morning but that went straight out the window. Some things are just more important, you know?
What the hell happened to Ronnie?
Meanwhile, the biggest shock came Friday night when Ronnie O'Sullivan got absolutely dismantled by Zhao Xintong. I lost £30 to my brother-in-law on that match. "Ronnie's a sure thing," I said. Well, egg on my face now.
Zhao played like a man possessed. Ronnie just couldn't get going, and before we knew it, the Rocket was crashing back to Earth. My neighbor Dave (massive Ronnie fan since 1992) texted me just one word: "Devastated."
When & Where To Catch The Drama
If you're as obsessed as I am, you can catch all teh action starting at 10am and 7pm. I've been flipping between BBC iPlayer and Discovery+ for streaming, though my internet decided to buffer during Williams' century break yesterday... nearly threw my laptop out the window.
TV coverage is spread across BBC One, Two, Four, and TNT Sports. I've programmed all the channels into my remote's favorites. My wife thinks I've lost the plot.
Listen. This tournament has been absolutely unpredictable.
The Crucible's Cursed Corner Pocket
I swear that bottom right pocket has been rejecting perfectly good shots all tournament. Three players have now thrown their hands up in disbelief after watching balls bounce out of it. There's probably some physics explanation, but I'm sticking with my cursed pocket theory.
Back in 2018, I was lucky enough to attend the semi-finals in person. Cost me about £120 for the ticket, and it was worth every penny. The atmosphere inside that theatre is something TV just can't capture - it's like being in a pressure cooker where you can hear people breathing.
Anyway, I'll be watching every remaining frame of this epic battle. Williams is on the brink of another final, and I wouldn't bet against the Welsh wizard at this point.
...though I said the same about O'Sullivan, and we all know how that turned out.
