Cricket Icon Faces Ban
Marlon Samuels, a cricket legend and bitter rival of Ben Stokes, has been banned from the sport for six years. The ban comes after an independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal found him guilty of breaching corruption rules.
Stellar Career and Controversial Charges
The former West Indies cricketer has had an impressive career, playing 71 Tests and 274-limited-overs internationals for his country. This included standout performances in the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cups. However, Samuels has now been charged with failing to disclose receipt of payment, gift, or other benefit that could harm the reputation of cricket. Additionally, he failed to disclose hospitality worth over £550.
Charges and Investigation
The International Cricket Council brought the charges against Samuels on behalf of the regional authority, which were related to his participation in the Abu Dhabi-based T10 league. He also faced charges of failure to cooperate and obstruction or delay of the subsequent investigation.
A Strong Deterrent
The ban, effective from November 11, 2023, will serve as a strong deterrent for any participant who intends to break the rules, according to Alex Marshall, the ICC General Manager of their HR and Integrity Unit. Marshall emphasized that Samuels had been a participant when the offenses were committed, despite being retired now.

Rivalry with Ben Stokes
Marlon Samuels has been involved in a bitter rivalry with Ben Stokes since 2015. In an infamous incident, Samuels saluted Stokes off the field when the Englishman was caught. After the Windies won the T20 final over England in 2016, Samuels described Stokes as a "nervous laddie."
