City's Summer Shopping Spree: Pep's Rebuild After Liverpool Humbling

I'm still reeling from watching City hand over their crown to Liverpool. God. Four years of dominance ended with a whimper, not a bang. The Etihad feels like a funeral home right now - and Pep's face during that final whistle told the whole story.

Hear the Summary

The January Splurge Was Just the Beginning...

Let's be honest. The £188m January spending spree (that still feels ridiculous to type) was just Pep dipping his toes in the water. Marmoush has been the only real bright spot - breaking that winter signing scoring record while everything else crumbled around him. Poor bloke probably wonders what he signed up for.

My mate who works security at the training ground swears he's never seen Guardiola this determined. "Like a man possessed" were his exact words over pints last Thursday.

Who's Getting Shown the Door?

The wage bill is apparently giving the accountants nightmares. De Bruyne's £400k weekly paycheck is finally coming off teh books, and there's strong talk that both Ederson and Bernardo are heading for the exit.

Ederson's been making 120 grand a week to occasionally distribute the ball with his feet. Not bad work if you can get it.

Stefan Ortega might be Leverkusen-bound too, which leaves us with... absolutely nobody between the sticks. Fantastic planning there, lads.

The £100m Question (Actually, Make That Two)

Replacing KDB is gonna be a nightmare. Forest want a cool £100m for Gibbs-White - which seems absolutely bonkers for someone with just 5 goals and 9 assists this season. I watched him against Arsenal in February and thought he was decent, but not exactly worth breaking the bank for.

Then there's Wirtz.

The Leverkusen wonderkid would be perfect, but we'd need to fight off Madrid AND cough up another £100m+ for the privilege. Starting to see why they're desperate to trim that wage bill...

Can Someone Please Play Full-Back?

Walker's Milan loan becoming permanent leaves another gaping hole. I spent three hours yesterday watching Jeremie Frimpong highlights after hearing we're monitoring him. Kid's electric going forward but sometimes forgets the "defending" part of being a defender.

Hernandez would be my pick. Experienced, knows how to actually tackle, and wouldn't need six months to adapt to Pep's system.

The Backroom Shuffle Nobody's Talking About

Lost in all this transfer chat is the fact we're basically swapping out our entire football operations team. Viana's just getting his feet under the desk while Begiristain's counting down to his post-Club World Cup retirement party.

Makes you wonder who's actually calling the shots on these five supposed signings.

Back in 2018, we had a similar transition period when Soriano restructured things... and ended up with Mahrez and Laporte. So maybe there's hope.

I just hope we don't end up spending £500m on players who'll take two seasons to settle. Liverpool aren't going anywhere, Arsenal are only getting stronger, and I'm not sitting through another season of watching us surrender the title in April.

The dynasty might be over, but the rebuild starts now. And it's gonna cost a fortune.
