Chelsea Fans Concerned About Reece James' Premier League Drought in 2023

Chelsea Fans Concerned About Reece James Premier League Drought in 2023

Chelsea fans are expressing their frustration over what they are calling the "Reece James curse" as the Blues captain has yet to secure a Premier League win this year.

Struggles with Injuries

The 23-year-old defender has been plagued by injuries, both in the previous season and the current one, which has further hindered his chances of success.

Avoiding the Win

What is particularly concerning for James is his inability to contribute to the team's victories. Despite making 11 league appearances in 2023, he has not experienced a single Premier League win this calendar year.

In all competitions, James has only managed to secure one club win in 2023, which came in a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.

Early Captaincy and Setbacks

Over the summer, James was appointed Chelsea captain by Mauricio Pochettino. However, his captaincy was short-lived as he suffered a hamstring injury after just one game.

During his absence, Chelsea secured two consecutive league wins against Fulham and Burnley but faltered against Arsenal, ultimately drawing 2-2 after surrendering their lead in the closing stages of the match.

James made a brief appearance of three minutes in the clash against the Gunners. In the recent game against Brentford, he featured for 23 minutes but was unable to make a difference in the team's toothless performance.

Fans' Reactions

Chelsea fans have taken to social media, including X (formerly Twitter), to express their frustrations. One fan noted, "Things always seem to fall apart as soon as he enters the pitch," while another referred to James as a "curse to Chelsea."

Looking Ahead

Both Chelsea and James will be eager to break free from this curse as they prepare to face Tottenham next week. However, with Ange Postecoglou's side currently sitting at the top of the table, it will undoubtedly be a challenging task.
