Carragher's Bold Prediction: Arsenal Tumbling to FOURTH?!

God. I've been a football writer for 17 years, and I've never seen a collapse quite like Arsenal's. What started as a genuine title challenge has morphed into this bizarre, slow-motion car crash that nobody can look away from.

Remember back in March when we all thought the Gunners might actually push Liverpool all the way? Yeah, that feels like ancient history now.

The Spectacular April Fools' Joke That Never Ended

Since April 1st (ironic timing, innit?), Arsenal have managed to win precisely ONE game in the Premier League. ONE. That scrappy 2-1 victory against Fulham is literally all they have to show for themselves. I was at that match, freezing my backside off in the press box, and even then you could see the cracks forming.

My colleague Dave bet me £50 they'd bounce back immediately. Poor Dave. His wallet's feeling as empty as Arsenal's trophy cabinet right now.

The most damning stat? They've dropped 21 points from winning positions this season. Twenty-one! That's level with their 2019/20 disaster class. Arteta must be pulling his immaculately styled hair out.

Wait... Could They Actually Drop to Fourth?!

Jamie Carragher (who I've always found surprisingly insightful for an ex-Liverpool man) dropped a bombshell on Sky Sports that's got the North London faithful reaching for teh anxiety meds.

"I still think Newcastle and Manchester City can actually catch Arsenal," Carra said with that typical Scouse certainty. "Just with the situation Arsenal have in the Champions League... they go to Anfield, they've also got to play Newcastle as well. It's a brilliant race."

He's not wrong. The fixtures look brutal.

From Title Challengers to... This?

I watched their last match from the Emirates press box. The atmosphere was... weird. Like attending a funeral where everyone's pretending the deceased is just taking a nap.

What's most frustrating (and I've heard this directly from someone close to the coaching staff) is that Arsenal have actually LED in all those matches they've failed to win. They get ahead and then... collapse. Like they're allergic to success or something.

This has essentially handed Liverpool their 20th title on a silver platter.

The Gap Could Be Historic (And Not in a Good Way)

Here's something nobody's talking about enough. If Liverpool beat Chelsea today, the gap between first and second will be a staggering 18 points.

The record? 19 points, set when City demolished United back in 2018.

And with Liverpool hosting Arsenal next weekend... well, we could be looking at a 21-point chasm. In 2023, I interviewed a club statistician who told me they'd modeled this exact scenario as "less than 5% probable" at the start of the season. Oops.

So Who's Making Champions League Then?

Carragher's full prediction has Liverpool champions (duh), City second, Newcastle third, and Arsenal barely hanging onto fourth.

That means no Champions League for Chelsea or Nottingham Forest, with Aston Villa supposedly leapfrogging both.

I texted my mate who works in Villa's analytics department after hearing this. His response: "From your lips to God's ears."

Look, I've been covering the Premier League since 2006, and this run-in is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable for Champions League spots I've ever seen.

Arsenal fans... might want to start drinking heavily.
