Bayern Munich Scouting Three Potential Replacements for Manuel Neuer

Bayern Munich Scouting Three Potential Replacements for Manuel Neuer

BAYERN MUNICH is reportedly on the lookout for three potential long-term replacements for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, despite him recently signing a new contract.

Neuer's Injury-Plagued Season

Last season, Neuer, 37, was limited to just 16 appearances across all competitions due to a severe leg injury sustained on a ski trip. However, the goalkeeper made a successful return to competitive action in October, proving that he still has what it takes to compete at the top level.

New Contract for Neuer

Impressed by his performance and resilience, Bayern Munich offered Neuer a contract extension, which he gladly accepted. The one-year extension ensures that Neuer will continue to be a part of the Bundesliga giants' squad.

Manager Thomas Tuchel expressed his confidence in Neuer, saying, "As long as he feels as good and keeps it as he is, we're not giving it any limits. Then he can stand in goal for as long as he wants."

Scouting Potential Replacements

Despite Neuer's contract extension, Bayern Munich officials have already started scouting for his potential long-term replacement. The three players being considered are AC Milan's Mike Maignan, Switzerland international Gregor Kobel, and Alexander Nubel, who is currently on loan at Stuttgart from Bayern.

Kobel the Ideal Candidate

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg believes that Gregor Kobel is the ideal candidate to eventually take over Neuer's position. Plettenberg stated, "We really believe that he [Kobel] could inherit Manuel Neuer's position at some point."

Thomas Muller Expected to Stay

In other news, Bayern Munich's club icon, Thomas Muller, is expected to remain at the Allianz Arena beyond 2024, further solidifying his association with the club.

As Bayern Munich continues to plan for the future, it remains to be seen who will eventually succeed Manuel Neuer as the team's first-choice goalkeeper. Stay tuned for updates.
