Barcelona Eyeing Ramsdale and De Gea as Ter Stegen Replacements

Barcelona Eyeing Ramsdale and De Gea as Ter Stegen Replacements

Barcelona considering NINE alternatives as Ter Stegen faces injury

Barcelona is reportedly exploring options to replace injured goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with at least nine alternatives being considered. Ter Stegen will be sidelined for up to two months due to a back injury, prompting Barcelona to seek potential replacements.

Aaron Ramsdale and David de Gea on Barcelona's radar

Among the contenders to fill Ter Stegen's boots are Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale and former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. Ramsdale, who is Arsenal's second-choice goalkeeper, is keen for regular playing time to secure his place at Euro 2024. However, Arsenal is determined to keep him until at least the summer. On the other hand, free agent De Gea may be a more feasible option for Barcelona.

Other potential replacements

In addition to Ramsdale and De Gea, Barcelona is also considering other options. Hugo Lloris, who has lost his starting spot at Tottenham, is on the list of possible replacements. Kasper Schmeichel, who currently plays for Anderlecht, is another surprising name mentioned. Former Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki, Al-Hilal's Yassine Bounou, and Keylor Navas from PSG are also being considered. Two veterans without a club since last summer, Sergio Asenjo and Timo Horn, are also hopeful for an opportunity with Barcelona. Additionally, 19-year-old Ander Astralaga could potentially be promoted to the senior team.

Arsenal determined to keep Ramsdale

Arsenal is reportedly prepared to fight any attempt to lure Ramsdale away, even on loan, as they value his contribution to the team. Despite Ramsdale being the second-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, manager Mikel Arteta is keen to retain him until the summer.

De Gea's potential availability

De Gea, who is currently a free agent, has been linked with Saudi clubs and Newcastle United following Nick Pope's injury. However, if Barcelona were to make an offer, it would likely tempt the Spanish goalkeeper.
