Arsenal 'willing to trigger £50m transfer release clause' to sign LaLiga star who brutally rejected them last year

Arsenal willing to trigger £50m transfer release clause to sign LaLiga star who brutally rejected them last year

Arsenal is reportedly ready to activate the £50 million release clause of Martin Zubimendi, according to reports. The Gunners had their approach rejected by Zubimendi, 24, last summer. However, Mikel Arteta remains interested in the Spanish midfielder and the setback has not deterred Arsenal.

Martin Zubimendi has been linked with a £50m transfer to Arsenal

Spanish outlet Sport claims that Arsenal will make a move for Real Sociedad's Zubimendi this month. Zubimendi has been with Sociedad since he was 12 years old, but it is expected that he will leave the club either this month or in the summer. His current contract expires in 2027, but with several interested parties, a departure seems likely.

Arsenal will face competition from Barcelona for Zubimendi's signature. The timing of the transfer may depend on which club activates the release clause first. However, considering Arsenal's need for attacking reinforcements, they may wait until the summer to recruit a new midfielder.

Arsenal has reportedly made a £22 million offer to sign Getafe forward Borja Mayoral, following their inability to secure a transfer for Brentford's Ivan Toney. However, Getafe has rejected the initial offer and is holding out for a fee closer to £39 million for Mayoral.
