Arsenal fans express outrage
Arsenal fans were left fuming after defender William Saliba was pictured wearing a Spurs jersey in a recent social media post. Many supporters took to Twitter to express their anger, with some even jokingly calling for the player to be sold.
A closer look reveals the truth
However, it turns out that all is not as it seems. Saliba was actually posing for a video shoot with international chef Abdou Drame, as part of a collaboration with Gainde Conciergerie. The shoot involved the pair holding up a signed Arsenal home shirt, while Saliba himself was wearing a basketball vest for the NBA team San Antonio Spurs.
Saliba's impressive performances
Despite the controversy surrounding his jersey choice, Saliba has been earning praise for his performances on the pitch. The 22-year-old has become one of the standout stars under manager Mikel Arteta, starting 27 Premier League games last season before an injury cut his campaign short. This season, Saliba has played the full 90 minutes in all nine league fixtures, as well as three Champions League matches.
Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit hails Saliba
Former Arsenal and France star Emmanuel Petit has even gone as far as to say that Saliba is one of the best centre-backs in the league, outperforming the likes of Virgil van Dijk. Petit praised Saliba's positioning, tackling, and aggressiveness, highlighting his rapid improvement in a short period of time. Petit also named Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, and Josko Gvardiol as some of the other top defenders in the league.
