Ankaragücü President Resigns After Punching Referee: I Only Meant to Spit at Him

Ankaragücü president Faruk Koca has resigned after he punched a referee during a match, claiming he only meant to spit at the official. The incident occurred following Ankaragücü's 1-1 draw with Rizespor in the Turkish Super Lig, resulting in the indefinite suspension of Turkish football.

Shocking Attack

The match between Ankaragücü and Rizespor was already heated, with two red cards being shown. However, the situation escalated after the final whistle when Faruk Koca confronted referee Halil Umut Meler and punched him. Explosive footage captured the moment, showing Koca swinging and connecting with a punch, knocking the unsuspecting official to the ground.

Immediate Response

Other individuals then kicked the referee while he was down, prompting players, coaching staff, and security to intervene. Eventually, Meler was helped to his feet, visibly shaken. He was later seen with a black eye and was escorted from the field before receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

The incident has shocked the football community and led to Faruk Koca's resignation as president of Ankaragücü.
