Ange Postecoglou nearly became manager of Huddersfield but lost out to Danny Cowley

Ange Postecoglou, the current Tottenham boss, was close to becoming the manager of Huddersfield in the past. However, he was pipped to the job by Danny Cowley, who was unemployed at the time.

A missed opportunity

Four years ago, when Postecoglou was managing Japanese side Yokohama Marinos, he was interviewed for the Huddersfield job. Despite impressing the club, they ultimately chose Cowley.

Former Terriers director of football, David Webb, spoke highly of Postecoglou, saying, "He was someone who I felt would have fit Huddersfield really well because of his values and I liked the way he played."

Webb also mentioned that Postecoglou had done his homework on the Huddersfield squad. However, due to logistical reasons, the deal couldn't be finalized in time.

Postecoglou's journey

Following his unsuccessful bid for the Huddersfield job, Postecoglou went on to manage Celtic, winning five trophies before joining Tottenham in the summer.

On the other hand, Cowley is currently without a club after being sacked by Portsmouth earlier this year.

Webb, now assistant manager of Georgia, will be facing Scotland on Thursday in Euro 2024 qualifying.
