Andros Townsend Changes Name on Shirt to Honor Son

Andros Townsend Changes Name on Shirt to Honor Son

Former Premier League star Andros Townsend has made a heartwarming gesture by changing the name on the back of his Luton shirt.

From Club to Club

After leaving Everton last summer, Townsend found himself without a club. A potential move to Burnley fell through, but he eventually joined Luton in October on a short-term deal until January.

A Special Tribute

While playing for Luton, Townsend has been sporting the name "Townsend Sr" on the back of his jersey. This is a tribute to his four-year-old son, Andros Jr.

Townsend explained on talkSPORT, "It's simple really, my son is Andros Townsend Jr. I changed my name by deed poll to Andros Townsend Sr. when he was born. I had a couple of years out of the game so it was only natural that I come back and honor my son and I changed my name to suit my new name."

A Future Legacy

Townsend and his model partner Hazel have two children, Aria Valentina and Andros Jr. He hopes that one day his son will follow in his footsteps and play in the Premier League, with "Townsend Jr." on the back of his shirt.

However, Townsend admitted, "He's got absolutely zero interest in the [football] world. I take him to training but he just wants to run around and fight with his sister and jump up and down and do usual stuff four-year-olds wanna do!"
