Uncontrolled migration is an existential threat to the West, says Suella Braverman

Uncontrolled migration is an existential threat to the West, says Suella Braverman

Home Secretary Calls for Action

Speaking at a right-wing think tank in Washington DC, Home Secretary Suella Braverman emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue of uncontrolled migration. Braverman argued that this phenomenon, combined with inadequate integration and a dogma of multiculturalism, has proven to be a toxic combination for Europe in recent decades.

Existential Challenge

Braverman warned that uncontrolled immigration poses a major threat to the political and cultural institutions of the West. She stressed that political systems unable to control their borders will lose the consent of the people and ultimately fail. In her speech, she called for a shake-up of the UN's 1951 Refugee Convention as a means of addressing this critical challenge.

Refugee System Incentivizing Luck

Braverman also highlighted how the current refugee system incentivizes individuals to "try their luck" in a system that is in dire need of reform. She argued that millions of asylum seekers are taking advantage of a broken system and that action must be taken to address this issue.

Crisis at Sea

This year, approximately 24,000 migrants have arrived in the UK by small boats. However, Braverman clarified that none of those crossing from France are in immediate peril.

Amnesty UK Critical of Braverman's Speech

Amnesty UK's Sacha Deshmukh dismissed Braverman's speech, labeling it as "a display of cynicism and xenophobia."
