Tory Rebels Call for Tougher Rwanda Plan to Stop Illegal Immigration

Ringleader Robert Jenrick Urges PM to Ramp Up Bill to Prevent Boats

Tory rebels are pushing for a tougher Nationality and Borders Bill, commonly referred to as the Rwanda plan, in an attempt to curb illegal immigration. Robert Jenrick, one of the ringleaders, has described this as the party's last chance to address the issue effectively. Jenrick has urged Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to strengthen the legislation, emphasizing that there may not be another opportunity if it fails.

Illegal Immigration Remains a Major Issue Despite Previous Legislation

Although the government has introduced the Nationality and Borders Bill and the Illegal Migration Act in recent years, illegal immigration continues to pose a significant problem. The proposed Rwanda plan aims to address this ongoing issue, but Tory rebels believe that further action is necessary to achieve the desired results.

Three Strikes and You're Out: Tory Rebels Demand Stronger Legislation

Robert Jenrick, a former immigration minister, has emphasized the importance of getting the Rwanda plan right. He stated, "This is the third piece of legislation in three years, it’s three strikes or you’re out, we’ve got to get this right." Leading a group of 30 right-wing backbenchers, Jenrick is calling for the legislation to automatically overrule European judges, providing a stronger stance on illegal immigration.

MP Miriam Cates Agrees: The Bill Must Stop Boats

Tory MP Miriam Cates supports the call for a tougher Rwanda Bill. She believes that the bill must effectively address the issue of illegal immigration in order to satisfy not only the Conservative Party but also the entire country. Cates warns that failure to stop the boats could pose a significant threat to both the Conservative Party and the nation as a whole. She stresses the need for unity in making this bill work.
