Schools Face Ban on Socially Transitioning Kids Under Proposed Law by Liz Truss

New Bill Aims to Protect Children and Define Gender

A new law proposed by Liz Truss, the former Prime Minister, could ban schools from "socially transitioning" children and restrict the use of preferred pronouns by teachers. The bill, which currently lacks government backing, also seeks to prohibit the administration of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to individuals under the age of 18. This development comes as the Department for Education is expected to release long-awaited trans guidance for schools next week.

Bid to Clarify Gender Definition and Safeguard Rights

Liz Truss is also pushing for a change in the law to clarify that individuals legally classified as women cannot possess male genitalia. The proposed legislation has garnered support from 11 Conservative Members of Parliament, including former Home Secretary Priti Patel. Truss argues that the current law fails to adequately protect young people and adult women. She believes that enacting this law would not only safeguard rights, but also demonstrate a victory for common sense.
