Rishi Sunak Faces Nightmare as Tory MP Loses Recall Petition

Rishi Sunak Faces Nightmare as Tory MP Loses Recall Petition

Veteran Conservative Peter Bone loses recall petition for Wellingborough seat

Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, is facing a new year's nightmare as another brutal by-election looms for the Conservative Party.

13% of constituents demand by-election

More than 13% of Peter Bone's constituents in Wellingborough have signed a recall petition, surpassing the required 10% threshold.

Recall petition triggered by misconduct allegations

The recall petition was triggered after Mr. Bone was found to have exposed himself to a male staffer in a Madrid hotel. The Commons sleaze commissioner ruled that the MP had engaged in "many varied acts of bullying and one act of sexual misconduct" against the staffer.

Denial from Mr. Bone

Despite the allegations, Mr. Bone maintains his innocence and denies the claims, stating that they are "false and untrue."

Seventh by-election in 12 months

With the upcoming Wellingborough by-election, it will be the seventh by-election in the span of 12 months for the Conservative Party.

Previous defeats for the Tories

In October, the Tories suffered humiliating defeats to Labour in the formerly safe seats of Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth.

Longstanding MP for Wellingborough

Mr. Bone has been the MP for Wellingborough since 2005 and won the seat in the last general election with a majority of 18,540.
