PM Calls for "Real World Action" from China in Dealing with Global Warming
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called on China to increase their environmental commitments ahead of the upcoming COP28 summit. Sunak wants the Communist state to demonstrate "real world action" in addressing global warming.
Sunak will attend the summit in Dubai, where he will join approximately 160 leaders in urging for plans to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees to stay on track. However, Chinese President Xi Jinping will not be present at the climate event.
A spokesperson from 10 Downing Street stated, "Significant action must be taken to keep '1.5 alive'. Sunak recognizes that all countries, including China, play a vital role in this effort. We need to see tangible actions, not just commitments, to ensure progress continues."
China's involvement is regarded as crucial to the plan. While the UK has reduced carbon emissions by nearly 50% since 1990, China has experienced a 300% increase.

Chinese President Xi Will Not Attend, Sends Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang Instead
Despite the importance of China's role, President Xi will not be attending the COP28 summit in Dubai. Instead, he has designated Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang to represent the country.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sunak will use the summit as an opportunity to announce £1.6 billion in funding for climate projects, including £300 million for energy initiatives worldwide. Additionally, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer will outline his plans to make the UK the "green finance capital" of the world.
