Jeremy Hunt: General Election is Game On for Tories

Jeremy Hunt: General Election is Game On for Tories

Tax Cuts and Economic Recovery

Jeremy Hunt, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, believes that the upcoming General Election is in the hands of the Tories. He points to a "significant" economic recovery and promises more tax cuts as the key factors for their success. Hunt stated, "I think it's entirely ours to win if we are sensible, prudent and continue on the path we're going, which is to reduce taxes on working families."

Labour's Changing Fortunes

Hunt dismisses the double-digit lead of the Labour Party in the polls, claiming that even Labour themselves acknowledge that the polls can change quickly. He confidently asserts, "What we're seeing at the moment is an economic situation that is improving significantly and people are seeing that. We did take difficult decisions a year ago, yes. But we're now seeing the benefit from those decisions."

The Choice: Tax Cuts vs. Increased Spending

Hunt lays down the gauntlet to the opposition, highlighting the key difference between the two parties. He states, "A Conservative government wants to bring down taxes and that is the choice because we're in an election year this year. A Labour government that wants to spend an extra £28 billion a year. That's potentially an extra £2,000 pounds a year tax or a Conservative government is reducing tax, this year by nearly £1,000 pounds on a typical family with two earners. That's the choice."

No Plans to Quit

Addressing rumors of his potential resignation, Hunt firmly denies any intention of leaving his Surrey seat. He calls the rumors "absolute nonsense" and declares his confidence in winning his seat in the upcoming election. However, he acknowledges that it will be a tough battle in a marginal seat.
