Hamas Senior Operative Lives in £500,000 London House, Raises National Security Concerns

Quiet Suburban Life

A Hamas "senior operative" resides in a £500,000 semi-detached house in a peaceful neighborhood in north London, according to new reports. Zaher Birawi, who was designated as a member of the terrorist organization by the Israeli government in 2013, has been captured on video speaking at an event in London and photographed with Hamas' political leader. His presence in the UK, along with other individuals believed to be linked to Hamas, raises serious questions about national security.

Controversial Connections

Zaher Birawi, a Palestinian activist, is the registered owner of the property, which was purchased for £380,000 in 2007. He has also been pictured alongside former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and visited him in Parliament in 2015. According to Israel's strategic affairs ministry, Birawi has "close ties to Hamas" and has worked for pro-Palestinian NGOs associated with the organization.

National Security Concerns

The presence of individuals linked to Hamas in the UK poses a significant national security risk, according to Labour MP Christian Wakeford. He raised concerns in the Commons about the "serious national security risk" posed by Hamas operatives living and promoting the organization in London. Wakeford named Birawi and highlighted the potential danger of having operatives from a proscribed terrorist organization residing in the country.

A Call for Action

Wakeford's remarks in the Commons come after the UK banned Hamas's military wing as a terrorist organization over two decades ago. In 2021, the political wing of Hamas was also included on the list. The government spokesperson declined to comment on individual cases, while Birawi called Wakeford's claim "baseless" and stated that he would explore all available legal options in response to the MP's comments.
