France Spends UK Cash to Boost Border Security Against Migrant Boats

UK Taxpayers' Money Used for Vehicles and Drones

France has utilized £46.5 million from the UK to enhance its border security with Italy, located 560 miles away from the English Channel. A substantial portion of the funds, tens of thousands of pounds, was allocated towards acquiring vehicles and drones to secure the border.

French Force at the South Eastern Border Receives UK Cash

Documents have confirmed that the UK taxpayers' money was directed to a division of the French force responsible for preventing arrivals at the country's south eastern border. This financial support highlights the ongoing cooperation between the UK and France in addressing immigration-related challenges.

Focus on Equipment Rather Than Manpower

In addition to vehicles and drones, the French government invested a significant amount of money in equipment for border security. This included office items, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, e-scooters, and quad bikes. Furthermore, £130,000 was allocated for new riding boots, helmets, and gear for a mounted border unit.

UK Contributions Make Up a Significant Portion of France's Border Budget

Figures indicate that the funding provided by the UK will account for approximately one-tenth of France's entire border budget for this year. This substantial financial assistance stems from the 2018 Sandhurst Treaty, which was negotiated by former UK Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Addressing the Connection Between Italy and Britain

A source from the French Interior Ministry stated that the expenditure on border security at the Italian border is logical due to the fact that many immigrants who arrive through Italy are ultimately making their way to Britain. This investment aims to mitigate the challenges posed by irregular migration and enhance security measures.
