Union Members Demand Fair Pay

The Aslef union boss, Mick Whelan, stated that train drivers have not received a pay rise in four years, despite the rising cost of living. Whelan argues that it is only fair for train drivers to be able to afford the same things they could four years ago.

Department for Transport Counterargument

The Department for Transport argued that their offer would increase train drivers' salaries from £60,000 to £65,000 a year. They highlighted that this amount is more than double the average UK salary, and many drivers also earn additional money through working overtime.
