Convicted Rapists May Be Forced to Serve Full Sentences, Rishi Sunak Considers

Cracking Down on Crime

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is considering implementing new laws to prevent convicted rapists from being eligible for early release. This potential crackdown on crime comes as part of a larger strategy to boost support for the Tories.

Ashley Shuck's Case

The need for stricter sentencing rules for rapists is highlighted by the case of Ashley Shuck. Shuck was released halfway through his sentence, only to go on to attack two more women just three weeks later. His prior conviction was for the rape and kidnapping of an elderly woman and the sexual assault of another woman, committed shortly after his early release.

Outlining the Vision

During a speech at the Tory conference in Manchester next Wednesday, Rishi Sunak will share his comprehensive plans for the future of the country. This could include proposals to replace A-Levels with an English Baccalaureate, requiring English and math studies until the age of 18. Additionally, the possibility of scrapping the Manchester leg of HS2 and slashing inheritance tax will also be considered.

The Political Importance

While controversial, changing the sentencing rules for rapists is a crucial step in ensuring the safety of the public. By removing the possibility of early release, justice can be better served, and the risk of reoffending can be minimized.
