A recent poll has revealed that the majority of British voters are still willing to make sacrifices in order to support Ukraine. Despite the financial pressures of the ongoing conflict, 60% of respondents believe that the UK should stand firmly with President Zelensky's struggle, even if it means facing challenges at home. Only 20% of participants disagreed, suggesting that Rishi Sunak should not support Ukraine if it puts a strain on families in the UK, while 14% remained unsure.
Strong Backing for Ukraine Despite War's Financial Pressures
Although the war between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for almost two years, the support for Ukraine among British voters remains strong. Only 6% of respondents expressed indifference towards Ukraine's victory over Russia, while 48% deemed it "very important," and an additional 27% considered it "somewhat important." These findings challenge the claims made by Italian PM Giorgia Meloni that the West is growing weary of the conflict, as well as concerns that the Israel-Hamas conflict would overshadow support for Ukraine.
Support for Ukraine's Territorial Reclamation
In addition to supporting Ukraine's overall victory, 60% of respondents believe that Britain should assist Ukraine in reclaiming territory that it held prior to Russia's invasion. Furthermore, 26% of participants want Ukraine to regain control of the land it possessed before the 2014 annexation of Crimea.
Pollster Luke Tryl emphasized the significance of these findings, stating, "Despite the current focus on the Israel-Hamas conflict in politics and the media, the British public has not forgotten about Ukraine. They overwhelmingly believe that Ukraine's victory in the war matters to Britain and that we should continue to support Ukraine, even if it comes at a cost to us here at home."
