Close Cooperation Pact
Britain's plan to send migrants to Rwanda could be replicated by Austria as the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, has signed a close cooperation pact with Vienna. The two countries are exploring the use of "safe third countries" to alleviate the pressure of mass illegal migration.
Learning from Britain
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner expressed Austria's desire to learn from the UK's experience in processing asylum applications outside of Europe. He stated, "Austria can benefit from this. We will continue to make a consistent effort for the EU to advance and enable such procedures outside of Europe."
Tackling Crime and Cyber Security
In addition to discussing migration, the UK and Austria have also agreed to collaborate on tackling serious and organized crime, boosting cyber security, and preventing online radicalization.
Shared Strategies
Home Secretary Suella Braverman emphasized the burden that the migration crisis places on communities and public services, stating that Austria is a close ally in addressing illegal migration. The two countries have begun sharing knowledge and strategies, including third-country removals.

European Interest
Germany's Free Democrats, a party in the coalition government, supports processing asylum-seekers offshore, while Denmark aims to relocate migrants to a country outside the EU. Both countries' interest aligns with Britain's approach.
It remains to be seen whether the Supreme Court's upcoming judgment on the legality of the controversial Rwanda scheme will impact these discussions.
