Brexit Breaks the Ban
Thanks to Brexit, a major change to Britain's drinking laws is on the horizon. Ministers are preparing to overturn a ban imposed by Brussels, allowing champagne and wine to be sold in pint-sized bottles.
Following Churchill's Lead
This move will bring back the tradition of serving bubbly in pint measures, a practice beloved by none other than Sir Winston Churchill himself. The wartime leader once famously declared that a pint of champagne was "enough for two at lunch and one at dinner."
A Return to the Past
The sale of champagne in pints was a common practice in the UK before it was outlawed in 1973 when the country joined the European Common Market. However, the plan to reintroduce pint-sized bottles has faced legal delays since it was first proposed in 2021.
Consultation with Industry
The Department for Business and Trade has informed other government sectors that the ban on pint-sized champagne and wine bottles will soon be lifted. A consultation with the champagne and English sparkling wine industries is said to be "imminent." This move is expected to pave the way for the introduction of pint-sized servings for all wines in early next year.

A Win for Brexit
A source from the business department stated, "This is just the latest win from our push to ditch pointless and restrictive EU rules. And what better way than by bringing back Churchill's favorite?"
