Tragic Footballer Maddy Cusack Suffered from Too Much Pressure While Juggling Jobs

The Struggles of Maddy Cusack

The mother of Maddy Cusack, a Sheffield United footballer who tragically passed away at the age of 27 in September, has spoken out about her daughter's struggles. Deborah Cusack revealed that Maddy faced immense pressure while juggling two jobs and earning just £6,000 before her untimely death.

Threatened Future in the Game

Maddy, who was in love with Sheffield and the club's fans, felt that her future in football was "threatened," according to her mother's interview with the BBC. This revelation comes as more tributes pour in for the talented footballer.

An Investigation is Underway

An inquest has been opened and adjourned, with the coroner awaiting further details about the cause of Maddy's death. Sheffield United has also launched an investigation into any circumstances that may have contributed to her passing, following requests from the family.

The Strain of Part-Time Football

Maddy's mother highlighted the challenges faced by women's footballers at Sheffield United, who are part-time and have to juggle full-time jobs while playing three times a week. She emphasized that the players receive a minimal amount of money, with Maddy earning just £6,000 a year.

A Life Cut Short

Maddy was found dead at her home in Derbyshire on September 20. Tributes from the footballing world poured in, and Derbyshire Police confirmed that her death was not suspicious. Her family described her as being at her happiest last Christmas, before her wellbeing gradually changed from February of this year.

A Proud Mother

Deborah Cusack also shared her unimaginable grief and unbearable pain since her daughter's death. However, she recalled a touching moment during a memorial event when she was applauded by 40,000 fans at Sheffield United's match against Newcastle United. She wanted to show the world that she was proud of everything Maddy had accomplished in her short life.

Maddy's sister, Felicia, described her as a role model, while her brother, Richard, remembered her as a fierce competitor and a proud person. Sheffield United declined to comment on the matter.
