Soccer Saturday Legend Chris Kamara to Sing Live on TV Show Amid Speech Apraxia Diagnosis

Brave Performance on ITV's Get Britain Singing

Soccer Saturday legend Chris Kamara, who publicly revealed his diagnosis of speech apraxia last year, is set to make a courageous appearance on the ITV show Get Britain Singing. Despite the challenges brought on by his neurological disorder, Kamara will take up the microphone and sing on the program as part of their "Christmas TV extravaganza."

What is Speech Apraxia?

Speech apraxia is a neurological disorder that affects the body's ability to perform natural motor functions, including speaking. Those with the condition often struggle to communicate their words, even though they know what they want to say.

Get Britain Singing Campaign

ITV's Get Britain Singing campaign aims to inspire people through the power of music. As part of this initiative, celebrities will sing a variety of classic tunes on the show. The campaign is part of the broader Get Britain Talking initiative, which encourages open discussions about mental health.

Star-Studded Lineup

Kamara, known for his work on Sky Sports, will join other celebrities on Get Britain Singing, including Russell Watson (Cockroach) and Aled Jones (Traffic Cone) from The Masked Singer. The show will feature a competition format, with teams led by various stars from popular TV shows such as Love Island, EastEnders, and Coronation Street. Good Morning Britain stars Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins, Alex Beresford, Laura Tobin, and Dr. Amir Khan will also participate as one of the five groups.

Emotional Interview

In a recent interview on Good Morning Britain, Kamara opened up about his condition and the emotional toll it has taken on him. He expressed feelings of denial and shame, but also a desire not to be a burden on his family. The interview moved host Susanna Reid, who offered her support by holding his hand.

Reflecting on His Diagnosis

In a previous interview, Kamara revealed that he regrets not seeking medical help sooner. He believes that if he had checked his thyroid in the early stages of his condition, he might have been able to prevent some of the physical effects. He expressed a sense of letting down his wife and family by not taking his health seriously.
